Algorithms for Covering Multiple Barriers
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we consider the problems for covering multiple intervals on a line. Given a set B of m line segments (called “barriers”) on a horizontal line L and another set S of n horizontal line segments of the same length in the plane, we want to move all segments of S to L so that their union covers all barriers and the maximum movement of all segments of S is minimized. Previously, an O(n log n)-time algorithm was given for the problem but only for the special case m = 1. In this paper, we propose an O(n log n log log n + nm logm)-time algorithm for any m, which improves the previous work even for m = 1. We then consider a line-constrained version of the problem in which the segments of S are all initially on the line L. Previously, an O(n log n)-time algorithm was known for the case m = 1. We present an algorithm of O((n + m) log(n + m)) time for any m. These problems may have applications in mobile sensor barrier coverage in wireless sensor networks.

Heuristic and exact algorithms for Generalized Bin Covering Problem
In this paper, we study the Generalized Bin Covering problem. For this problem an exact algorithm is introduced which can nd optimal solution for small scale instances. To nd a solution near optimal for large scale instances, a heuristic algorithm has been proposed. By computational experiments, the eciency of the heuristic algorithm is assessed.
متن کاملTwo new heuristic algorithms for Covering Tour Problem
Covering Tour Problem (CTP) is the generalized form of Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), which has found different applications in the designing of distribution networks, disaster relief, and transportation routing. The purpose of this problem is to determine the Hamiltoniancyclewiththe lowest costusinga subset of all the nodes, such that the other nodes would be in a distance shorter than the ...
متن کاملMaximal covering location-allocation problem with M/M/k queuing system and side constraints
We consider the maximal covering location-allocation problem with multiple servers. The objective is to maximize the population covered, subject to constraints on the number of service centers, total number of servers in all centers, and the average waiting time at each center. Each center operates as an M/M/k queuing system with variable number of servers. The total costs of establishing cen...
متن کاملIdentifying and Analyzing Coordination Barriers in the Context of Urban Infrastructure Provision in Iran A Qualitative Multiple Case Study
Introduction: Urban infrastructure systems provide foundations for modern civil communities and enhance the quality of life. Coordination between different urban infrastructure agencies involved in urban infrastructure provision plays a significant role in the success of these critical urban sub-systems. It brings together various independent agencies to make their endeavors more accordant. In ...
متن کاملGeneral form of a cooperative gradual maximal covering location problem
Cooperative and gradual covering are two new methods for developing covering location models. In this paper, a cooperative maximal covering location–allocation model is developed (CMCLAP). In addition, both cooperative and gradual covering concepts are applied to the maximal covering location simultaneously (CGMCLP). Then, we develop an integrated form of a cooperative gradual maximal covering ...
